Sinking Foundation Puts Cottage Sale on Hold in Severn Bridge, Ontario
Challenge
Ontario is home to many gorgeous areas. Whether it’s the acres of green forest north of Algonquin Park or the bustling wildlife of the south in Point Pelee, we’re lucky to have so much beauty in our province. Getting away from the city on the weekends is a great way to take it all in, and what better way to do it than to head to the cottage.
A customer in Severn Bridge, Ontario, was well aware of how much we enjoy cottages and was capitalizing on this Canadian past time. He built a cottage condo resort that backs onto the Trent Severn Waterway close to 10 years ago, intending to sell all the units. The units were built on floating concrete slabs, and one row in particular sat in front of a small stream. Unfortunately, over the years, the stream had eroded beneath the condo foundation and caused the cottage to slop five inches towards the back. The unit became unsellable because of the settlement, and his plans were put on hold until he remedied the problem.
Solution
At a loss as to how to fix this situation, the resort owner reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling. A contractor working next door who was familiar with our services recommended he contact us. He thought he would have to raise the entire unit and pour a whole new slab but was excited to hear from Project Manager Paul Mendell that we had a unique solution to fix his problem. “Where have you been all these years!” he exclaimed to Paul.
Our Service Department booked a date, and Foreman Kyle McKeown was dispatched to complete the repairs. Kyle started the work by drilling multiple dime-sized holes throughout the floor on the inside. He also drilled several spots outside. Inside the cottage, Kyle injected PolyLevel® to raise the back section of the slab foundation back up to match the front half. From the outside, he used PolyLevel® to stabilize the soils beneath the foundation, ensuring further erosion would not cause the slab to settle again.
The resort owner was ecstatic once we completed the job. He loved the entire experience, from initially reaching out to our Call Centre, to Kyle performing the work. He feels that we exceeded all of his expectations, and we did so at a fraction of the cost he thought we would have to spend.
