Sinking Concrete Threatens Students in Penetanguishene, Ontario
Challenge
When it comes to elementary schools, safety is always a top priority. Kids tend to be a little more prone to accidents, so we do what we can to ensure those accidents remain minor.
A school in Penetanguishene, Ontario, called Canadian Concrete Leveling to inquire about sinking concrete steps. These were steps used by students every day, so something needed to be down to ensure they stayed safe.
Solution
Project Manager Paul Mendell met with the faculty and showed them how we could lift and level the sinking concrete. They were thrilled to hear they could use the concrete hours after it was finished, and they booked a date for the repair.
Foreman Bill McKeown drilled dime-sized holes to inject our high-density polyurethane, PolyLevel®, beneath the concrete. Once injected, it expands, lifting the concrete and compressing any loose fill soils below. To complete the repair, Bill patched the holes with fresh concrete.
The school staff are delighted that the steps are finally safe. They don’t need to worry about a student tripping, and they avoided having to redo the entire staircase.
