Concrete Sinking Before Building is Even Finished in Toronto, Ontario
Challenge
Pools are an expensive add-on to a home, so we do everything we can to ensure they're in good working order for many years.
A customer in Whitby, Ontario, reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling to deal with a sinking concrete slab. It carried the weight of his pool heater and pump, but the entire slab had started to lean forward over the years. When pool heaters aren't level, they don't heat properly, and the homeowner was worried the unit would fail prematurely. He was also worried about water leaking into his basement.
Solution
Project Manager Paul Mendell met with the homeowner and inspected the concrete. Paul explained that the equipment's weight, combined with loose fill soils beneath the concrete made the slab sink. The customer was afraid that the entire patio would need to be removed, but Paul put his mind at ease by explaining our PolyLevel® System.
Foreman Bill McKeown started the repair by drilling dime-sized holes in the concrete. He used these holes as injection ports for our PolyLevel® System. As the high-density polyurethane is injected, it expands beneath the surface. This lifts the concrete and compresses any material below to prevent further settlement. Once Bill was done raising the slab, he patched the holes with fresh concrete.
What was initially a stressful and worrying experience was turned around by the Canadian Concrete Leveling team. The customer is happy he chose a non-invasive alternative and was pleasantly surprised that he could use the concrete that same day.
