Sinking Floor Compromises Vehicle Hoist in Huntsville, Ontario
Challenge
When working with heavy equipment or machinery, safety is a top priority. A mistake or accident can quickly turn into a serious situation, so steps are taken to ensure the work area is as safe as possible.
In Huntsville, Ontario, a mechanic shop was having a concrete floor issue in their two-year-old building. The shop focused on fitting trucks with heavy-duty suspension systems, salters and plows, but large cracks were forming near the vehicle hoists. The owner was concerned about the floor giving way and his staff's safety, so the original contractor reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling on his behalf.
Solution
Project Manager Paul Mendell met with the contractor and inspected the building. Paul determined that the settlement and washout had occurred during the two years since being built. Paul explained how our high-density polyurethane injection system, PolyLevel®, uses expanding polymers to fill voids. The owner and contractor were happy to hear of a non-invasive solution and booked a repair date.
Foreman Bill McKeown drilled dime-sized holes in the floor to access the void below. He filled the gap with PolyLevel®, compressing fill soil and stabilizing the sinking floor. Once the repair was complete, we patched the injection ports with fresh concrete.
The owner, contractor and staff were blown away by how fast and non-invasive the repair was. They're relieved that the risk of the floor failing is gone, and they were back using the hoists the same day.
