The Final Steps
Challenge
In Maple, Ontario, this beautiful concrete front staircase and back step had a similar issue. The top step of both front and back had largened because they started settling. The settling made the stairs look unappealing and caused tripping hazards from the top step to the bottom. With the front staircase, the last stair had stayed in its original position, but the remaining step before the top had started to sink. This made the final stride to the top much larger. The back step had a similar problem, but only one stair made the accessibility to the home more challenging.
Solution
the beautiful work they already had. Mudjacking is too invasive and doesn’t last, and replacing the concrete can be too costly, making matching the old concrete difficult. With some research, the homeowners found Canadian Concrete Leveling to do the work. From the initial call, we were able to send our experienced Project Manager, Joe McColl, to the home. He scoped out the sinking steps and knew what needed to be done to bring the concrete into its original place. Once a schematic was drafted, it was sent to our Installation Supervisor, which came on a later day. Kyle McKeown, our Supervisor, arrived on the site to begin the work. He will be using our PolyLevel® Injection system to ensure that the concrete is levelled permanently, non-invasively, and effectively. He started by drilling holes the size of a dime to feed the polyurethane. The holes were strategically injected in the lowest points of the steps so that the polyurethane could lift them with fewer drill holes. Once the PolyLevel® was injected, the results were almost immediate. The gap between the top step and the rest lessens before your eyes; surprisingly enough, the curing time is practically quick too.
With the results being so immaculate, quick, and thought out, the owners couldn’t have been happier. They watched the process happen before them, leaving them ecstatic about the professional work. Canadian Concrete Leveling made the final steps of their staircases perfect.
