Old and New Front Walkway Sinking, Brampton ON
Challenge
In Brampton, Ontario, a home had a concrete walkway leading to the home but started to sink toward the house. Five years prior, the homeowners had to replace half of the walkway due to the old concrete breaking away, but the replacement had also started to sink. They wanted to find a solution to level the concrete back since rainwater would pool at the bottom of their porch steps against the wall, which could affect the home's foundation strength. Since the concrete was in excellent condition, the only option they found fit best was to level it, and that's when they called us.
Solution
Our Project Manager, Paul Mendell, arrived at the home for his thorough inspection. This inspection is to see how much sinking is occurring, how much material is needed, where the targeting points are, and if any obstacles will interfere with the levelling. Paul recommended two of our systems: our PolyLevel® injection system to lift the concrete back to its original height and our NexusPro® sealant to seal the joints and protect the undersoil from unwanted moisture or debris. Once the clients agreed to Paul's recommendations, it was time for our installation team to get to work. The installation duo Bill McKeown, Foreman, and Nestor Cabrera, Specialist, completed this job efficiently. The target area was the inner part of the walkway, closer to the home, to promote a slope that would run water away from the house. The PolyLevel® lifted each to create a hill to run water down the driveway. Once the job was done, Bill showed the homeowners the final product, and they were taken aback, knowing they would not walk over any tripping hazards. The sealing will be done by our Specialist, Cameron Saunders, on a later date.
