Residential Photo Album: Unwanted Skunks Make Their Home Beneath a Pool Deck in Whitby, Ontario
Many of us enjoy taking in wildlife. There’s something about encountering wild animals and observing, but most of us draw the line at our homes.
A customer in Whitby, Ontario, was dealing with skunks nesting in their backyard. The critters had dug out a tunnel beneath the concrete pool deck. The client and his family had just inherited the home and wanted to use the pool but were afraid of getting sprayed. The voids created by the skunks also led to the pool deck sinking in a few spots.
After reaching out to a pest control company and Canadian Concrete Leveling, the homeowner met with Project Manager Kyle O’Brien. Kyle inspected the patio and explained how our PolyLevel® System works. High-density polyurethane expands beneath the slabs, lifting the concrete and filling the voids.
Foreman Bill McKeown injected PolyLevel® through drilled injection ports in the concrete slabs. He brought the patio back to a level grade and filled any voids below to prevent animals from returning. We installed our system right after pest control was on-site, preventing any leeway time for the skunks to take up residence again.
The customer and his family are looking forward to finally using their new-to-them pool. Their risk of being sprayed is gone, and they avoided having to pour new concrete.
Pool
The customers were looking forward to having a pool for the first time, but the sinking concrete and skunks were holding them back
Pool Deck Before
As the slabs settled, it exposed a tripping hazard and pulled away from the pool coping
Pool Deck After
We filled the voids below to ensure the skunks don't return
Injection Ports
We install PolyLevel® through dime-sized holes, creating a minimal disturbance in the concrete surface
Fresh Concrete
Once the slabs are brought back to grade, we patch the injection ports with fresh concrete
