Some people love keeping things private in their home, while others can’t wait until the next dinner party or get-together.
A customer in Oshawa, Ontario, loved having company over with his wife. They were typically the hosts for their group of friends, but sinking concrete was getting in the way. Their front walkway and steps were sinking and cracking. This made it hard for guests to navigate, especially in the dark.
Project Manager Joe McColl met with the clients and inspected their concrete. Loose fill soils had washed away beneath the slabs, creating a cavity. Over time, the lack of support allows the slab to sink.
Joe explained how our PolyLevel® System could lift the concrete using high-density polyurethane injections. When the solution is iinjected, the polymers expand beneath the concrete, lifting the slab and compressing soils below. To keep water and debris out of the seams or cracks, Joe recommended our NexusPro® Sealant System. Our waterproof sealant cures in a matter of hours and is resistant to harsh UV rays.
Foreman Kyle McKeown started the repair by drilling dime-sized holes in the concrete surface. He used these holes as injection ports. PolyLevel® fills the entire space beneath the concrete, providing a lifetime of support and preventing the issue from returning.
The customer and his wife love how great the concrete looks. Their guests were expecting to see a brand-new concrete walkway but were pleasantly surprised with our alternative, cost-effective solution.
Front Step Before
The entire slab in front of the porch had settled several inches over the years
Front Step After
Once we completed the lift Kyle patched the injection holes with fresh concrete
Void Before
A large void formed where concrete had eroded away beneath the slab
Void After
Lifting the slab as well as filling the void ensures the issue won't return and animals won't nest beneath the concrete
Sealant
The last step was sealing the seam between the two slabs to prevent moisture and debris from getting beneath the concrete
