Residential Photo Album: Sinking Concrete Leads to Injury for Homeschooler in Brampton, Ontario
COVID-19 has brought about many changes for all of us. Thousands are working from home, unsure of when or if they’ll return to the office. On top of that, lengthy school closures have left many parents as makeshift teachers.
In Brampton, Ontario, a couple had been dealing with these changes for several months, when sinking concrete made things a little tougher. Their kids were doing school virtually and enjoyed free time in the backyard. The needed break from screen time helped keep them focused, until one day, one of the kids tripped and fell over a raised concrete edge, chipping his tooth. The surrounding slab had settled, and the parents could no longer let them enjoy their free time. To make things worse, their back and front steps had settled as well, making the front entry dangerous.
After reaching out to Canadian Concrete Leveling the anxious parents met with Project Manager Alex Balson. Alex put their worries to rest after explaining how we could lift the sinking concrete in only a day’s work.
Foreman Bill McKeown and Installation Specialist Mark Sealy started by drilling dime-sized holes in the concrete surface to use as injection ports. Our 300-ft heated hose allows our crew to reach the backyard without using any heavy equipment. The pair injected our high-density polyurethane, PolyLevel®, beneath the concrete surface to lift the sinking slabs. Once the lift was complete, they patched the holes with fresh concrete, finishing the job in a matter of hours.
The couple is blown away by the entire process with Canadian Concrete Leveling. They were worried they would need to redo their entire back deck and steps, but are happy they found a less-invasive, cheaper alternative. The kids are ready to safely enjoy the backyard again.
Back Steps Before
This gap was so large the step was no longer to code
Back Steps After
We returned it to legal code, but with a permanent solution that won't fail down the road
Front Steps Before
The parents were concerned about delivery drivers since COVID forced them to order in more than before
Front Steps After
PolyLevel® compresses the soils below the concrete and fills any voids while also lifting the slab above
Back Patio Before
This raised concrete was due to the adjacent slab sinking, where one of the kids chipped his tooth
Back Patio After
We strategically injected the polyurethane throughout the patio, evenly lifting the concrete
